All contributions are subject to editorial review.
After editorial review, main contributions ("articles” or “essays”) together with all contributions of the Call of Papers are subject to a double-blind peer review process.
However, invited contributions are subject to editorial review only; invitation is made explicit in the introduction of the Journal Issue or in a footnote at the beginning of the contribution.
Contributions published under the sections “discussions,” “reports,” “news,” and “reviews” are subject to one blind-review only.
The Editorial team has adopted the codes of conduct and best practices for Journal editors developed by COPE – the Code of Conduct for Journal Editors and Best Practice Guidelines and its most recent Core Practices developments.
The following are the main guiding rules of the best practices adopted.
- Editorial decisions are not affected by the origins of the manuscript, including the nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, or religion of the authors. Decisions to edit and publish are not determined by the policies of governments or other agencies outside of the journal itself.
- The Journal ensure that all published reports and reviews of research have been reviewed by suitably qualified reviewers, and that submissions from members of the journal’s staff or editorial board receive an objective and unbiased evaluation.
- Editors’ decisions to accept or reject a paper for publication are based on the paper’s importance, originality and clarity, and the study’s validity and its relevance to the remit of the journal. Editors make decisions on which articles to publish based on quality and suitability for the journal publisher and without interference from the journal publisher.
- The Journal have a defined process for handling submissions from the editors or members of the editorial board to ensure unbiased review.
- Authors receive reviewer’s comments in their entirety unless they contain offensive or libellous remarks. The material submitted to the journal remains confidential while under review.
- Editors require reviewers to disclose any potential competing interests before agreeing to review a submission. Editors don’t reverse decisions to accept submissions unless serious problems are identified with the submission.
- Editors identify suitably qualified editorial board members who can actively contribute to the development and good management of the journal.
- Editors consult editorial board members periodically (e.g. once a year) to gauge their opinions about the running of the journal, informing them of any changes to journal policies and identifying future challenges.
- The Journal informs Reader about who has funded research or other scholarly work and whether the funders had any role in the research and its publication and, if so, what this was.
- Authors guarantee the originality of the Work and the quiet enjoyment of the rights assigned, including that relating to the title of the Work; they ensure that the publication of the Work, including the pictures and images does not infringe on the rights of third parties either in whole or in part.
- The Journal commits itself to the diffusion of contributions, not only trough the publication of the print version, but also by making them all available on the Web, at https://verifiche.padovauniversitypress.it/ under the Creative License “CC BY-NC-ND Attribution - NonCommercial - NoDerivative Works”.
